Vietnamese War of Independence

The Vietnamese War of Independence (1945-1954) was a struggle led by the Viet Minh, a communist-nationalist movement, against French colonial rule after World War II. Inspired by the desire for self-determination, Vietnam sought to end centuries of foreign domination. The conflict culminated in the decisive Battle of Dien Bien Phu, where Vietnamese forces defeated the French, leading to the 1954 Geneva Accords. These agreements temporarily divided Vietnam into North and South, setting the stage for future conflicts. The war was driven by local nationalist aspirations combined with Cold War geopolitics, ultimately establishing Vietnam as an independent nation.
