Vietnamese Military History
Vietnamese military history spans thousands of years, marked by resilience against invasions and colonial rule. Early kingdoms like Văn Lang and Âu Lạc resisted Chinese domination, developing distinct martial traditions. During the centuries of Chinese control, native rebellion persisted. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Vietnam faced French colonization, leading to revolutionary struggles culminating in independence. The Vietnam War (1955-1975) was a Cold War conflict between North Vietnam, supported by communist allies, and South Vietnam, backed by the U.S. and allies, resulting in reunification under communist rule. Throughout, Vietnamese forces demonstrated strategic adaptability, national unity, and perseverance.
