Vienna Conference on Austrian State Treaty
The Vienna Conference on the Austrian State Treaty, held in 1955, was a diplomatic meeting involving Austria and the occupying Allies—U.S., U.K., France, and the Soviet Union. It aimed to resolve Austria's post-World War II status, ending four occupying powers' control, and restoring Austria's sovereignty. The treaty declared Austria a neutral country, prohibited unification with Germany, and laid the foundation for Austria's independence. This agreement allowed Austria to re-establish itself as a peaceful, independent nation within Europe and marked the end of occupation that began after WWII.
