Viable Systems Model

The Viable Systems Model (VSM) is a framework for designing and understanding organizations to ensure they can adapt, survive, and thrive in changing environments. It identifies five interconnected functions: operations (the core activities), coordination, control (monitoring and decision-making), intelligence (future planning), and identity (understanding the organization's purpose). These functions work together like a nervous system, allowing the organization to self-regulate, learn from experiences, and respond effectively to external challenges. Essentially, VSM helps organizations structure themselves so they remain adaptable and resilient over time.
