Vesting
Vesting is the process that determines when you gain full ownership of certain benefits, such as employer-provided retirement or stock options. Typically, you earn these rights gradually over timeāif you leave the company before fully vested, you may forfeit some or all of these benefits. The vesting schedule, which can be based on years of service, ensures that employees earn their benefits through continued employment. Once vested, the benefits belong entirely to you and are yours to keep, regardless of whether you stay with the company.
