Vernier scale
A Vernier scale is a precise measuring instrument that enhances the accuracy of a main scale, such as a ruler. It consists of a secondary scale, called the Vernier scale, which slides along the main scale. By aligning the two scales, you can measure to fractions of the smallest main scale division, allowing for very accurate readings. It’s commonly used in tools like calipers and micrometers to measure dimensions with high precision, often to the nearest hundredth or thousandth of a unit, providing detailed measurements in scientific, engineering, and technical applications.
