Ventriculostomy

Ventriculostomy is a medical procedure used to relieve pressure inside the brain. It involves creating a small opening in one of the brain's ventricles, where cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is produced and stored. A thin tube, called a catheter, is inserted through this opening to drain excess fluid. This helps prevent or treat conditions like hydrocephalus, where too much fluid causes swelling and can damage brain tissue. The procedure is typically performed by a neurosurgeon, and it can be life-saving in emergencies involving brain injury or other neurological issues.
