ventricular systole

Ventricular systole is the phase of the heartbeat when the heart's lower chambers, called ventricles, contract to pump blood out to the lungs and body. During this time, the ventricles squeeze tightly, pushing blood through the arteries—oxygen-rich blood from the left ventricle to the body and oxygen-poor blood from the right ventricle to the lungs. This contraction increases pressure inside the ventricles, causing the valves to open and initiate blood flow. Ventricular systole is essential for maintaining effective circulation and delivering oxygen and nutrients to tissues.
