Venous Ulcer

A venous ulcer is a slow-healing sore that develops on the skin, usually around the lower legs or ankles. It occurs when veins in the legs have trouble returning blood to the heart, leading to increased pressure and fluid leakage into the surrounding tissue. This causes skin damage and tissue breakdown. Venous ulcers are common in people with a history of vein problems, leg swelling, or vein disease. They require proper medical care, including wound management, compression therapy, and addressing underlying vein issues, to promote healing and prevent recurrence.
