Velcade
Velcade (bortezomib) is a medication used to treat certain types of blood cancers, especially multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma. It works by blocking a protein called the proteasome, which helps cancer cells break down and recycle damaged proteins. When the proteasome is inhibited, these damaged proteins accumulate, leading to stress and death of cancer cells. Velcade is usually given as an injection and is part of chemotherapy regimens. It helps slow or stop the growth of cancer cells, improving symptoms and extending patient lives.
