Vegetation Index
A vegetation index is a measurement used to assess the health and density of plants in an area by analyzing satellite or aerial images. It works by comparing how much light plants reflect in different parts of the spectrum—specifically, visible and near-infrared light. Healthy vegetation absorbs visible light (like red) for photosynthesis and strongly reflects near-infrared light. The index combines these reflections into a single value, indicating how lush or stressed plants are. This helps in monitoring crop health, managing agriculture, and understanding ecological changes efficiently over large areas.
