Vauban-style fortifications
Vauban-style fortifications are a type of military design developed in the 17th century by France’s military engineer Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. They feature star-shaped layouts with multiple defensive layers, angled walls, and surrounding moats, providing strategic advantage by minimizing blind spots and allowing defenders to cover all approaches with artillery. This design emphasizes mobility and layered protection, making it difficult for enemies to breach the defenses. Often used for town and city fortifications, Vauban-style structures combine geometric precision with strong, interconnected defenses to enhance resilience against sieges.
