Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (vEDS) is a rare genetic disorder affecting the body's connective tissues, which provide strength and elasticity to blood vessels, organs, and skin. People with vEDS have weakened blood vessel walls, making them more prone to spontaneous tears and ruptures, especially in arteries, intestines, and the uterus. This can lead to serious, life-threatening complications. Symptoms may include thin, fragile skin that bruises easily and a tendency toward sudden vascular or organ rupture. Because of the risks, close medical monitoring and management are essential for individuals with vEDS.
