Varuna (deity)
Varuna is an ancient Hindu deity associated with the cosmic order, water, and the regulation of moral law. Traditionally considered the king of the oceans and a guardian of Rta (truth and righteousness), Varuna embodies both the celestial and terrestrial aspects of divine authority. He is often depicted holding a noose or rope, symbolizing his control over cosmic and moral obligations. In early Vedic literature, he played a prominent role as a deity overseeing laws and moral conduct, though later he became less central in popular worship, often associated with the vast, mysterious waters and the moral universe.
