Valladolid Rebellion
The Valladolid Rebellion was a protest in 1520-1521 in Valladolid, Spain, where local officials and residents opposed the authority of the newly crowned King Charles I (later Emperor Charles V). They were upset about high taxes and Francisco I de los Cobos, a royal administrator they saw as unfair. The unrest reflected tensions between the monarchy and local communities over governance and economic burdens. The rebellion was eventually suppressed, but it highlighted regional resistance to royal centralization during Spain's early 16th-century political changes.
