Valens (Emperor)

Valens was a Roman Emperor who ruled the Eastern Roman Empire from 364 to 378 AD. Known for his military leadership and administrative efforts, he sought to defend the empire's eastern borders amid increasing threats from Gothic tribes. His reign is marked by significant battles, most notably the disastrous defeat at the Battle of Adrianople in 378, where he was killed. Valens aimed to strengthen Roman defenses and manage internal stability, but his leadership was also characterized by challenges from barbarian invasions that ultimately weakened the empire.
