V1 Neurons

V1 neurons are specialized cells in the brain’s visual cortex responsible for processing basic visual features, such as edges, orientations, and movement. Located in the primary visual cortex (also called V1), these neurons help the brain interpret shapes and patterns by responding selectively to specific angles or edges in the visual field. They act as the brain’s first step in analyzing visual information, enabling us to perceive the structure and orientation of objects around us. Their activity forms the foundation for more complex visual processing that leads to recognition and understanding of our visual environment.
