Uterine Lining

The uterine lining, called the endometrium, is the tissue that lines the inside of the uterus. It thickens each month in response to hormonal signals during the menstrual cycle to prepare for a potential pregnancy by providing a supportive environment for a fertilized egg. If pregnancy doesn’t occur, the lining sheds and exits the body as menstrual blood. This cycle of build-up and shedding is essential for reproductive health and occurs regularly until menopause. The uterine lining’s health and thickness are influenced by hormones like estrogen and progesterone.
