USS Alabama (CSS Alabama)
The USS Alabama, originally the CSS Alabama, was a Confederate warship during the American Civil War, launched in 1862. It was a fast, heavily armed steamer designed for raiding Union merchant ships and disrupting their supply lines. The Alabama gained a reputation for its agility and effectiveness before being sunk by the Union Navy in 1864. The name was later used for a U.S. naval battleship, the USS Alabama (BB-60), commissioned in 1943, serving during World War II. Today, the USS Alabama (BB-60) is preserved as a museum in Mobile, Alabama, symbolizing naval history and military heritage.
