Ursus maritimus

Ursus maritimus, commonly known as the polar bear, is a large carnivorous mammal native to the Arctic. Adapted to cold environments, it has thick white fur and a layer of fat to insulate against the freezing temperatures. Polar bears primarily hunt seals, waiting by breathing holes or breaking into seal dens. They are excellent swimmers, capable of covering long distances in search of food. As apex predators, they play a vital role in maintaining the balance of the Arctic ecosystem. Due to climate change melting sea ice, polar bears face habitat loss and are considered vulnerable, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts.
