Urmia Lake

Urmia Lake, located in Iran’s northwest, is the largest hypersaline lake in the Middle East and an Important Wetland for migratory birds. Its water levels and salinity fluctuate with seasonal changes and water inflow, affecting local ecosystems and communities. Over recent decades, urbanization, dam construction, and climate change have significantly reduced the lake's size, threatening biodiversity and the livelihoods of those who depend on it. Conservation efforts aim to restore its ecological balance, considering the complex interplay between environmental health and regional water resource management.
