Ureter
The ureter is a narrow, muscular tube that connects each kidney to the bladder. Its main function is to carry urine, which is produced by the kidneys, down to the bladder for storage before it's expelled from the body. The walls of the ureter are smooth and capable of contracting rhythmically to propel urine along. They are about 10-12 inches long in adults and have a slight bend to fit within the pelvis and abdomen. Ureters work continuously and automatically, ensuring that waste fluid from the kidneys reaches the bladder efficiently and without delay.
