Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act

The Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act was enacted to prevent corporate and wealthy individuals from monopolizing urban land, ensuring affordable housing and equitable land distribution. It imposed limits on the amount of land one person or entity could hold in cities and required surplus land to be redistributed or used for public purposes. The goal was to promote social justice and prevent land hoarding. However, due to legal, administrative, and economic challenges, its implementation has been inconsistent, and many states have either amended or repealed it. The Act aimed to balance private land rights with urban development needs.
