Urate

Urate, also known as uric acid, is a waste product produced when the body breaks down certain chemicals called purines, found in many foods and drinks. Normally, urate dissolves in the blood and is eliminated through the kidneys in urine. However, if the body produces too much urate or the kidneys can't remove enough, it can lead to high levels in the blood, a condition called hyperuricemia. This excess can form sharp crystals in joints, causing pain and swelling, as seen in gout. Maintaining a balanced diet and healthy kidney function helps regulate urate levels.
