Urartian Language

The Urartian language was the spoken and written tongue of the ancient kingdom of Urartu, located in the region of eastern Anatolia (modern-day Turkey and Armenia) around the 9th to 6th centuries BCE. It is a language isolate, meaning it has no known linguistic relatives, and is primarily known from inscriptions, tablets, and monumental texts carved in cuneiform script. While its exact origins remain uncertain, Urartian provides valuable insights into the culture, administration, and history of this powerful civilization. Today, Urartian is extinct, but its inscriptions contribute significantly to our understanding of early Near Eastern history.
