Ur of the Chaldees

Ur of the Chaldees was an ancient city located in southern Mesopotamia, in present-day Iraq. It was a significant urban center during the early Bronze Age and is historically notable as the birthplace of Abraham, a key figure in the Hebrew Bible. In biblical texts, Ur is described as the starting point of Abraham’s journey to the Promised Land. Archaeologists have identified ruins of ancient Ur, which was a wealthy, advanced city known for its ziggurat (a temple tower) and early civilization. It played an important role in the development of early Mesopotamian culture.
