Uprising of 1956

The Uprising of 1956 was a nationwide revolt in Hungary against Soviet control and oppressive government policies. It began as a student demonstration in Budapest and quickly grew into a broader movement demanding political freedom, national independence, and reforms. The Hungarian people temporarily overthrew their government and formed a new, more independent leadership. However, the Soviet Union responded with military force, suppressing the uprising within weeks. Despite its defeat, the event remains a symbol of resistance and the struggle for sovereignty and democracy in Hungary.
