Upper bounds
An upper bound is a limit that indicates the maximum possible value that a quantity can take within a certain context. For example, if a race has a maximum time of 60 minutes, no runner can finish in more than 60 minutes. Similarly, in mathematics or computer science, an upper bound sets a ceiling on possible values or performance, helping us understand the worst-case scenario or the maximum extent of something. It’s a way of understanding the upper limits in a given situation or problem.
