UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor)
Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) measures how effectively a fabric protects the skin from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Similar to SPF for sunscreen, a higher UPF indicates better UV protection. For example, a fabric with a UPF of 50 allows only 1/50th of UV rays to reach the skin, blocking 98% of harmful rays. UPF ratings are especially important for outdoor clothing, swimwear, and accessories, helping reduce the risk of skin damage and diseases, including skin cancer, caused by sun exposure. Keep in mind that while UPF clothing offers protection, it’s still important to use sunscreen and sunglasses for comprehensive sun safety.
