UPEC

UPEC stands for uropathogenic Escherichia coli, a specific strain of E. coli bacteria responsible for most urinary tract infections (UTIs). These bacteria are equipped with unique features that allow them to attach to the lining of the urinary tract, invade cells, and sometimes form protective structures called biofilms. This helps them evade the immune system and antibiotics, making infections persistent and challenging to treat. In essence, UPEC are specialized bacteria that cause UTIs by effectively colonizing and damaging the urinary system.
