United States presidential elections

United States presidential elections are held every four years to choose the President and Vice President. Citizens cast votes in an “electoral college” system, where each state’s electoral votes reflect its population. The candidate who wins the popular vote in a state usually receives its electoral votes. To become President, a candidate needs at least 270 of the 538 electoral votes. Campaigns involve candidates running in primary elections and caucuses to secure party nominations, followed by nationwide general elections. The process ensures representation of diverse opinions, culminating in the Electoral College’s formal vote, which officially elects the President.
