United States Bureau of Mines
The United States Bureau of Mines was a federal agency established in 1910 to improve the safety, health, and efficiency of mining operations. It conducted research to develop safer mining techniques, reduce accidents, and minimize environmental impacts. The Bureau also studied mineral resources and promoted technological innovations to support the mining industry. In 1996, its functions were transferred to other agencies, but its legacy includes advances in mine safety standards, pollution control, and resource management that benefit workers and communities today.
