United Nations Trusteeship System
The United Nations Trusteeship System was established after World War II to help territories transitioning from colonial rule to self-governance or independence. It aimed to support these territories through administrative oversight, promoting political development, economic growth, and social progress. Administered by the UN Trusteeship Council, it ensured territories were prepared for self-determination. The system effectively ended in 1994 when the last trust territory, Palau, gained independence, making the trusteeship obsolete. Overall, it was a framework for guiding and supervising the responsible management of territories under transition to ensure their well-being and sovereignty.
