United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti
The United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) was a peacekeeping operation established by the UN in 2004 to help restore stability, security, and governance after political unrest and violence. It involved deploying international personnel to support the Haitian government, strengthen institutions, assist with disarmament, and protect civilians. The mission aimed to promote peace, rebuild confidence, and support development efforts until Haiti could maintain stability independently. MINUSTAH operated until 2017, after which it was succeeded by smaller missions focusing on specific issues like security, public health, and rule of law.
