United Nations Mission in Liberia
The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) was a peacekeeping operation established in 2003 to support stability after Liberia’s civil war. Its main goals were to help secure peace, support disarmament, strengthen government institutions, protect civilians, and assist with national rebuilding. UNMIL deployed peacekeeping troops, police, and civilian personnel to maintain security, foster reconciliation, and develop governance. The mission played a key role in facilitating elections, rebuilding infrastructure, and advancing peace processes, ultimately helping Liberia transition from conflict to stability until its withdrawal was completed in 2018.
