Unità d'Italia
L’Unità d’Italia, completed in 1861, was the political and social process that unified various separate Italian states and kingdoms into a single nation. Prior to this, Italy was divided into regions controlled by different powers, such as the Kingdom of Sardinia, the Papal States, and others. Key figures like Giuseppe Garibaldi and Count Cavour led efforts through diplomacy and military action to consolidate these territories. The unification fostered a shared national identity, establishing Italy as a single sovereign state, which laid the foundation for its modern political and cultural development.
