Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR)
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), commonly known as the Soviet Union, was a federation of multiple republics, established in 1922 after the Russian Revolution. It was a one-party state led by the Communist Party and aimed to create a classless society through state ownership of the economy. The USSR played a key role in global events, particularly during the Cold War, opposing the capitalist West. It consisted of 15 republics, with Russia being the largest. The Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, resulting in independent nations and a significant geopolitical shift.
