Union for a Popular Movement
The Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) was a center-right political party in France, founded in 2002. It aimed to promote economic liberalism, national security, and conservative social values. The UMP served as the main rallying point for parties and members aligned with Gaullist and liberal-conservative ideas, supporting policies like reducing government intervention and strengthening France’s global standing. In 2015, it was renamed Les Républicains to reflect a new political direction. The UMP played a key role in French politics, leading the government under President Nicolas Sarkozy and shaping national policy during its existence.
