Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filings
UCC filings are official documents filed with a government office to secure a legal claim—called a security interest—over personal property or assets. They are used mainly by lenders to indicate they have a right to seize or sell the borrower’s property if debts aren’t repaid. These filings help establish priority among multiple creditors and provide public notice of the lender’s interest. The most common form is UCC-1, which details the collateral and the parties involved. Filing a UCC establishes a public record, protecting the lender’s interests and clarifying ownership rights in commercial transactions.
