Unconventional Natural Gas

Unconventional natural gas refers to natural gas that is trapped in rock formations where traditional drilling methods aren’t effective. Examples include shale, tight sands, and coal beds. To extract it, specialized techniques like hydraulic fracturing (fracking) are used to create fractures in the rock, allowing the gas to flow to the well. This type of gas has become a significant energy resource, contributing to cleaner electricity generation compared to coal. However, its extraction raises environmental concerns, such as groundwater safety and potential seismic activity.
