UNCIP

UNCIP, or the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan, was an organization established by the UN in 1948 to help resolve the conflict over the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir after British India gained independence. Its main goal was to facilitate a peaceful solution, including holding a vote for the region’s future, either joining India or Pakistan, or remaining independent. However, political disagreements prevented the commission from achieving a final resolution. UNCIP played a mediating role but ultimately was unable to resolve the dispute, which continues to impact the region's stability today.
