UNAMID (United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur)

UNAMID (United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur) was a peacekeeping operation established to help stabilize the Darfur region of Sudan, which experienced conflict and violence. Launched in 2007, its goal was to protect civilians, facilitate peace negotiations, and support humanitarian efforts. Comprising both UN and African Union personnel, UNAMID monitored ceasefires, provided security, and assisted in the delivery of aid. The mission aimed to create conditions for lasting peace and reconciliation, although challenges persisted. UNAMID officially ended in December 2020, transitioning responsibilities to local authorities and other national peacekeeping efforts.
