Umkhonto we Sizwe

Umkhonto we Sizwe, meaning "Spear of the Nation" in Zulu, was the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC) formed in 1961. It was established in response to the increasing repression of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. Led by figures like Nelson Mandela, Umkhonto we Sizwe aimed to fight against apartheid—a system of institutionalized racial segregation and discrimination. The group initially focused on sabotage, targeting government and military installations, but later faced challenges during the struggle. It played a key role in the broader fight for freedom and equality in South Africa.
