Ultraviolet Protection Factor

Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) measures how effectively a fabric blocks UV rays from reaching your skin. A higher UPF indicates better protection; for example, a shirt with a UPF of 50 allows only 1/50th of the UV radiation to pass through. This rating helps you choose clothing that shields you from harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause sunburn, skin aging, and skin cancer. UPF specifically applies to clothing and fabrics, unlike SPF, which measures sunscreen protection. Wearing high-UPF clothing is an effective way to reduce UV exposure during outdoor activities.
