Ultrasonography in Breast Imaging
Ultrasonography, or ultrasound, is a medical imaging technique that uses sound waves to create pictures of the inside of the body, including the breast. During the procedure, a technician applies a special gel on the breast and uses a handheld device called a transducer to send and receive sound waves. These waves produce images that help doctors identify conditions like cysts, tumors, or other abnormalities. Ultrasound is often used in tandem with mammograms to provide clearer information, especially for women with dense breast tissue or for evaluating specific areas of concern. It is safe, non-invasive, and does not use radiation.
