UK Press Council
The UK Press Council was an independent body established to oversee and address complaints about newspapers and magazines, ensuring responsible journalism and protecting public interests. It aimed to uphold standards, mediate disputes, and promote accountability within the press industry. However, it was replaced in 1991 by the Press Complaints Commission (PCC), which functions similarly as a voluntary self-regulatory organization. The PCC manages complaints from readers about editorial content, seeking resolutions without judicial procedures, thus encouraging ethical practices and maintaining public trust in the media.
