UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
The UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) was a government department responsible for supporting economic growth through policies on business development, innovation, higher education, skills training, and consumer protection. It aimed to create a competitive economy by fostering entrepreneurship, investing in research and technology, and ensuring access to quality education and training. In 2016, BIS was replaced by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which now oversees these areas. Its goal was to help businesses succeed, improve skills across the workforce, and drive innovation for sustainable economic progress.
