UGT

UGT, or UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, is an enzyme in the body that helps detoxify and eliminate certain substances, including drugs, hormones, and toxins. It works by attaching a sugar molecule called glucuronic acid to these substances, making them more water-soluble. This process, called glucuronidation, allows the body to more easily excrete these compounds through urine or bile. UGT enzymes are mainly found in the liver but also exist in other tissues, playing a key role in the body's natural detoxification system and influencing how drugs are processed and cleared.
