Ugarit was an ancient port city located in modern-day Syria, flourishing around 1400-1200 BCE. It was a major hub for trade, culture, and language in the ancient Near East, known for its sophisticated writing system called cuneiform, which included early alphabetic scripts. Ugarit played a key role in regional politics and commerce, facilitating interactions among civilizations like the Egyptians, Hittites, and Mesopotamians. The city was ultimately destroyed around 1180 BCE, but its archaeological remains have provided valuable insights into early writing, religion, and international relations of the Bronze Age.
