UCL injury
An UCL injury involves damage to the ulnar collateral ligament, a key ligament on the inside of the elbow that provides stability during throwing or overhead motions. It commonly occurs in athletes like baseball pitchers when repeated stress or sudden injury causes stretching, partial tears, or complete tears of the ligament. Symptoms include pain, swelling, weakness, and decreased throwing ability. Treatment varies from rest and physical therapy for minor injuries to surgery, such as ligament reconstruction, for more severe cases. Recovery aims to restore stability and function, often requiring several months of rehabilitation.
